Being A Lady
Okay Girls, my challenge for today is...
To be a.. Lady
For some of us it's easier than others, but I've been thinking goodness how hard is it to seriously be what God has made us to be. That's right, God has made us to be ladies.
As a woman we are called be the essence of Femininity, we should embrace, enhance, enjoy every part of being a woman. Elisabeth Elliot said,"The fact that you are a woman does not make you a different kind of Christian, but the fact that you are a Christian does make you a different kind of woman."
As Christians, we should be everything a Lady should be!
So what exactly is wrapped up in this being a Lady thing?
First I truly believe to be a lady takes more than a pair of high heels, lipstick, and the way you walk. (But those things are quiet important to me hehe) It's a matter of the heart.
To fully understand the importance of being a lady, of being what God has made a woman to be, one must realize her position in life, in God's order of things. Her purpose...
She is not man, she is not better than man, Man is not better than her, but yet they are not equal. God has designed the home, He is the head over the man, the woman is subject to the man, and the children are under the parents. What a design, not to enslave us, but for our happiness, our good. When we change God's design, and we try to change order...there is no way peace can be found, confusion takes over, and the woman looses her place in the world, her meaning, her purpose. After all isn't that what we all long to know? Our purpose and design for being here?
I was looking up a 1950's lady(I just love Grace Kelly, Donna Reed, you know the type) Well I found a article on someones harsh view of a typical woman of that day and time. Remarks were made that woman were slaves to society, and that man ruled over them in over-bearing hateful ways.
Even the comment was made.."Many women during the fifties may feel that they were happy being mothers and that they were equal to men, just different." What the article failed to realize is that woman were happy then, a lot happier than they are now. Because they were woman, they didn't have to work all day in a office, get a million degrees, raise 2 kids in a daycare, and be a part time wife, and manage to stay sane at the end of the day. They didn't have all the stress, and burdens of a man's job as well as their own. And no they weren't slaves, to do whatever their cruel husband demanded, they were wives who knew that God had given them the wonderful job of being a woman.
They were diligent about their job they had been given, they wanted to please their husbands by looking nice (and they did strive to be the opposite of a man, by wearing, smelling, looking, and acting as feminine as possible) and cooking and keeping the house clean. Raising her children, like it or not..We are woman, and God has made us to bear to children, To have that nurturing, kind and loving nature, to care. That is part of our great purpose, and design. Children are a heritage of the Lord, any woman that denies this, and despises this..is missing out on one of the greatest things God has made woman to do! She is denying herself a blessing, and opportunity to influence the next generation. The many women God has chosen to not bear children, would gladly trade places with you, I'm sure. Every woman, with children or not...has something inside her, that is not found in man. A mothering nature to see and do what seems impossible at times.
The article reads.."The woman's life revolved around the house and home and even when she went out to meet her friends." Why I wonder, because the Bible does say...
To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
Titus 2:5
That pretty much describes a 1950's lady, She took that verse to heart..whether she knew it or not.
She wasn't brash or loud, she wasn't out partying and going wild, she wasn't messy and dis-orderly, she wasn't selfish and rude.
We've lost the 1950's lady..
Sadly, today even the older ladies are not what becomes a Godly lady.
To be all that verse above, we need some older woman that will take up the job again they,their mothers, and grandmothers, used to follow.
As the verses before Titus 2:5 tells us
The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
I'm sorry but I know very few aged woman that I may look to, to teach me these things.
The few I know, I watch, listen to, and strive very much to learn from them. Because in these days, it's so rare to find a real Lady, who has accepted what God has made her to be and is being that completely with no regrets, no complaints, no looking back, and she is doing it beautifully.
This year part of my many goals..I want to fervently, seriously, be a Lady. Be not only a lady, but a Godly one at that! To be concerned for others, to be forgiving and forbearing, to pray through my battles instead of whining through them.
So Ladies, Who will begin a new year with me?
Let's form a band of girls, that actually take what God has given them to do and do it!
Let's stop complaining about the Men in this world,
and go to the Lord to fix ourselves!!
Let's just be a Lady
